Care
of your Iron Meteorite |
| If
you were lucky enough to purchase or find an Iron Meteorite with
it's original fusion crust then your meteorite will probably never need
any maintenance. However,
most Iron Meteorites, whether found or purchased, have lost
their protective magnetite crust due to weathering on our Earth and
have begun to rust. These meteorites will require periodic maintenance.
The
easiest way to remove the rust is to use a wire wheel on a bench
grinder. This will erase the rust and bring the meteorite back to a
black sheen. If you want the meteorite to have a longer shelf life
before rust starts to show it's ugly head, you can
soak it in
ATF(Automatic Transmission Fluid) overnight then wipe the meteorite off
with a soft cloth.
If
you purchase your meteorite from us, you can return it to us and we
will restore it- allyou would pay is the cost
to ship it both ways. If
it has been damaged and we cannot repair it, we will let you know.
